Product Description
Glutathione (GSH), also known as Reduced Glutathione or L-Glutathione Reduced, is an important antioxidant found in plants, animals, fungi, and some bacteria and archaea. It appears as a white crystalline powder. It is a tripeptide with a gamma peptide linkage between the carboxyl group of the glutamate side chain and the amine group of cysteine, while the carboxyl group of cysteine is attached by a normal peptide linkage to glycine. Thiol groups act as reducing agents, present at a concentration of approximately 5 mM in animal cells. Glutathione serves as an electron donor, reducing disulfide bonds in cytoplasmic proteins to cysteines. As a crucial antioxidant in the body, it helps remove free radicals from the system.
